SUMMARY:Flexible Dates: Become a HERS Rater
DESCRIPTION:INTEREST FORM\n\n3C-REN has partnered with CalCERTS\, Inc. to offer HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Rater training for FREE* to qualified candidates across the tri-counties!   \nAs the California Energy Code (Title 24 Part 6) becomes more stringent\, HERS Raters are essential to the construction process as trusted third-party reviewers of the performance of a building’s major energy-using appliances.   \nCandidates will learn to conduct the following tests to verify the performance of various building systems:  \n\nDuct Tests \nBlower Door Tests \nQuality Insulation Installation (QII) \nFan Efficacy/Watt Draw \nRefrigerant Charge Verification \nSolar System Verification \nAnd more! \n\nHERS certification has several tracts depending on the individual’s focus. Pathways include:  \n\nHERS Residential Alterations \nHERS New Construction \nHERS Solar \nHERS II – Whole House Rater + CA RESNET \nHERS Nonresidential  \n\nA high school diploma or GED is recommended for enrolling in this training opportunity. For more information about what a HERS Rater does\, visit WWW.CALCERTS.COM to find a detailed course listing\, definitions\, resources\, job qualifications\, and more.   \nTo sign up for this training fill out the interest form. 3C-REN staff will follow up to schedule a short discussion about your experience and career trajectory.  \n*3C-REN will fully pay for training in partnership with CalCERTS\, Inc. Candidates will be responsible for any field house and EPA 608 examination fees\, which typically range from $200 to $325. Exams include: HERS Residential Alterations Compliance Fieldhouse and EPA 608 Universal Certification Core and Type II. These exams are required to become a HERS Rater in California and to handle refrigerants (EPA 608). In addition\, 3C-REN will require candidates to complete a brief bi-annual survey for one year\, detailing their experience after the class.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Passive House 4-hr
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nPassive House goals and methodology change the way architects and builders think and work\, making the architectural design itself a driver of climate\, health\, and social solutions. This is a 4-hour course that dives into the basic principles\, history\, certification\, and the new frontiers of Passive House design as it continues to challenge and change industry expectations. All theory is then illustrated through 3 case studies outlining specific Passive House principles. \nPrerequisite Knowledge\nGeneral knowledge about sustainable building design. \nLearning Objectives \n\nOutline the 5 basic principles of Passive House design and how each principle contributes to the health\, safety and welfare of occupants.\nDescribe why and how hygienic ventilation is an essential defining component of Passive House design and operation. And outline how the Passive House design focuses on very good energy efficiency which results in side-benefits like great occupant thermal and acoustic comfort\, improved occupant health outcomes\, and economic affordability.\nOutline the major Passive House tools: PHPP\, DesignPH and Therm\, and provide an overview of the tools in correlation with data-driven design.\nTo understand how to get from where the participant is now to building a building adhering to the international passive house standard through applicable case studies. And illustrate the data-driven’ design process used to help projects meet their comfort\, durability and climate goals.\n\nLearning Units \n4.0 AIA LU/HSW approved for this course \nInstructor \nSteve Mann\, The Passive House Network and Home Energy Services
