SUMMARY:Flexible Dates: Become a HERS Rater
DESCRIPTION:INTEREST FORM\n\n3C-REN has partnered with CalCERTS\, Inc. to offer HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Rater training for FREE* to qualified candidates across the tri-counties!   \nAs the California Energy Code (Title 24 Part 6) becomes more stringent\, HERS Raters are essential to the construction process as trusted third-party reviewers of the performance of a building’s major energy-using appliances.   \nCandidates will learn to conduct the following tests to verify the performance of various building systems:  \n\nDuct Tests \nBlower Door Tests \nQuality Insulation Installation (QII) \nFan Efficacy/Watt Draw \nRefrigerant Charge Verification \nSolar System Verification \nAnd more! \n\nHERS certification has several tracts depending on the individual’s focus. Pathways include:  \n\nHERS Residential Alterations \nHERS New Construction \nHERS Solar \nHERS II – Whole House Rater + CA RESNET \nHERS Nonresidential  \n\nA high school diploma or GED is recommended for enrolling in this training opportunity. For more information about what a HERS Rater does\, visit WWW.CALCERTS.COM to find a detailed course listing\, definitions\, resources\, job qualifications\, and more.   \nTo sign up for this training fill out the interest form. 3C-REN staff will follow up to schedule a short discussion about your experience and career trajectory.  \n*3C-REN will fully pay for training in partnership with CalCERTS\, Inc. Candidates will be responsible for any field house and EPA 608 examination fees\, which typically range from $200 to $325. Exams include: HERS Residential Alterations Compliance Fieldhouse and EPA 608 Universal Certification Core and Type II. These exams are required to become a HERS Rater in California and to handle refrigerants (EPA 608). In addition\, 3C-REN will require candidates to complete a brief bi-annual survey for one year\, detailing their experience after the class.

SUMMARY:Heat Pump Fundamentals: Space Conditioning and Water Heating – Class 5: High Performance Fundamentals Series
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nThis is class 5 of 6 in 3C-REN’s High Performance Fundamentals Certificate series. Earn a 3C-REN certificate of completion after finishing the series and passing short quizzes at the end of each class. This series will be hosted twice throughout 2023.  \n  \nHaving gained a solid understanding of high-performance building enclosures from classes 1 through 3 in 3C-REN’s High Performance Fundamentals series\, participants are well-prepared for this class\, which will provide a foundation in the use of heat pumps for both space conditioning (heating and cooling) and water heating. The class will cover what a heat pump is and explain why heat pumps are essential elements of high performance buildings. Special attention will be paid to refrigerants: how heat pumps use them\, how to avoid leaks through proper installation\, and why it’s important to avoid leaks due to the damage they can cause to contractor profitability and the planet. An overview will be provided to aid in selecting\, sizing\, installing\, and commissioning heat pump equipment\, so that it performs as intended.  \nLearning Objectives  \nAfter attending this class\, participants will be able to:  \n\nDescribe in lay language what a heat pump is\, its benefits\, and how it works; \nDescribe the environmental consequence of releasing small quantities of refrigerant to the atmosphere; \nDefine heat pump performance metrics and variables that differentiate different models; \nExplain the process of sizing and selecting a heat pump; \nList\, in order\, the steps for installing and commissioning a heat pump. \n\n2 AIA LU|HSW available for this course \nInstructor: \nDan Perunko\, Balance Point Home Performance

SUMMARY:Beat the Heat Webinar: Lessons Learned From the Fastest Warming County in the Nation and How You Can Ensure Neighbors Are Safe When Temperatures Rise
DESCRIPTION:Register now! \nDid you know Ventura County is warming faster than almost anywhere else in the United States? Hear how this impacts those on the frontlines of heat\, and find out what we’ve learned locally and nationally about what cities and individuals can do to address this urgent issue. You’ll learn how each of us can mobilize to protect those most at risk —  from farm workers to the youth.  We will also share broader solutions aimed at knitting a tighter social fabric\, such as neighborhood-based resource centers where community members  can get the help they need when extreme heat hits. Presented in English with Spanish interpretation in collaboration with Atlantic Council and CAUSE. cec.pub/beattheheat \nHosted by Community Environmental Council (CEC)
