SUMMARY:Enclosure Best Practices: Roofs\, Walls\, and Floors
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n  \nBuilding enclosures – the roof\, walls\, and floor – are the first line of defense between nature and people. Enclosure performance is optimized when air sealing and insulation – two underappreciated and typically underperforming features – are done to high-performance standards rather than the status quo. The preceding class in our High-Performance Fundamentals program (How Buildings Work; Science and Buildings and Science in Buildings) covered the scientific principles needed to effectively design high-performance buildings. This class covers installation — the practical application of those principles on the job site – the hands-on activities that differentiate ‘business-as-usual’ from high-performance construction. These include best practices for air sealing\, insulation installation\, and window installation\, along with the tools and methods (e.g.\, blower door testing) used to measure the quality of work\, and the metrics against which the work can be evaluated. \n  \nLearning Objectives \nAfter attending this class\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe preferred methods and materials used for air sealing different types of building openings\, and how to test the results;\nExplain the difference between conventional insulation practices and “Quality Insulation Installation (QII)” methods\, and how QII is verified;\nIdentify five common building enclosure installation flaws and how to avoid them. \nQuantify the magnitude of the gap between minimum energy code compliance and high performance\, where all energy features are confirmed with building performance test methods.\n\n2 AIA HSW|LU Pending for this course

SUMMARY:Whole House Assessment: The Home Energy Audit Explained
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nMeasured Home Performance is different from other approaches to saving energy and making money in the home improvement industry. The principal difference is the measured results of home performance contracting\, as opposed to the hoped-for benefits offered by other contracting services.   \nThe measured home performance process begins with a thorough examination of the home using diagnostic test equipment to measure the current performance of the home and its mechanical systems with the goal of obtaining all the information needed to present a proposal\, which will save energy and meet the other needs of the homeowner.    \nA clear understanding of how a home is performing takes much more than just a clipboard and a stroll around the house. In this session we will go through the process\, exploration\, and testing necessary to perform a comprehensive Home Energy Audit.  \nLearning Objectives:  \n1)  Attendees will have an outline for a comprehensive Whole House Energy Audit  \n2)  Participants will leave this session with the ability to perform a utility bill disaggregation  \n3)  An introduction to the diagnostic test equipment and the performance testing of a home and it’s mechanical systems  \n4)  Be given a sense of the structure of an effective proposal and work scope developed from the information and data gathered throughout the Home Energy Audit  \n2 AIA LU’s available for this course \n2 ICC LU’s available for this course \nInstructors: \n\nJudy Rachel\, Home Performance Pro
