SUMMARY:Flexible Dates: Become a HERS Rater
DESCRIPTION:INTEREST FORM\n\n3C-REN has partnered with CalCERTS\, Inc. to offer HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Rater training for FREE* to qualified candidates across the tri-counties!   \nAs the California Energy Code (Title 24 Part 6) becomes more stringent\, HERS Raters are essential to the construction process as trusted third-party reviewers of the performance of a building’s major energy-using appliances.   \nCandidates will learn to conduct the following tests to verify the performance of various building systems:  \n\nDuct Tests \nBlower Door Tests \nQuality Insulation Installation (QII) \nFan Efficacy/Watt Draw \nRefrigerant Charge Verification \nSolar System Verification \nAnd more! \n\nHERS certification has several tracts depending on the individual’s focus. Pathways include:  \n\nHERS Residential Alterations \nHERS New Construction \nHERS Solar \nHERS II – Whole House Rater + CA RESNET \nHERS Nonresidential  \n\nA high school diploma or GED is recommended for enrolling in this training opportunity. For more information about what a HERS Rater does\, visit WWW.CALCERTS.COM to find a detailed course listing\, definitions\, resources\, job qualifications\, and more.   \nTo sign up for this training fill out the interest form. 3C-REN staff will follow up to schedule a short discussion about your experience and career trajectory.  \n*3C-REN will fully pay for training in partnership with CalCERTS\, Inc. Candidates will be responsible for any field house and EPA 608 examination fees\, which typically range from $200 to $325. Exams include: HERS Residential Alterations Compliance Fieldhouse and EPA 608 Universal Certification Core and Type II. These exams are required to become a HERS Rater in California and to handle refrigerants (EPA 608). In addition\, 3C-REN will require candidates to complete a brief bi-annual survey for one year\, detailing their experience after the class.

SUMMARY:Recovery Ventilators: Energy Savings and Compliance Credit in the 2022 Energy Code
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nImproved health and cognitive performance. Easier Title 24 compliance. Utility bill savings. These are the reasons to consider incorporating Heat Recovery Ventilators & Energy Recovery Ventilators (collectively Recovery Ventilators or RVs) into your next high-performance home project. \n  \nNick Brown\, the instructor installed his first RV in his home during COVID\, when his daughter and two friends did their schoolwork from the office together. CO2 levels spiked in the early afternoon in that room\, because only Title 24 minimum mechanical ventilation was designed into the house. He solved the problem by installing a Heat Recovery Ventilator and has advocated for these systems ever since. The new All-electric ADU he built has one\, as well\, and we will draw on these experiences and data gathered from these units to better understand these mechanical ventilation systems and their benefits. \n  \nWe will also go over how to add an RV to a Title 24 compliance energy model and the change in energy use that results. We’ll present various configurations of RVs\, including through-the-wall paired units\, packaged HRVs and packaged ERVs\, and various ducting options. \n  \nLearning Outcomes: \n\nUnderstand the basics of how Recovery Ventilators (RVs) work to improve indoor air quality in homes and reduce heating and cooling energy use\nLearn the energy code requirements for mechanical ventilation and how RVs produce a Title 24 compliance credit\nModel a case study home using RVs and examine the energy use in various configurations\nHear best practices for specifying and installing RVs\n\nLearning Units: \n1.5 AIA LU pending for this course \n0.15 ICC CEU approved for this course \n  \nInstructor: \nNick Brown\, Build Smart Group

SUMMARY:The Case for Practical Home Performance Electrification
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nThe best outcomes for heat pumps and home electrification come through careful planning and incorporation of multiple facets of a building. Understanding the intersection of energy efficiency and performance is critical to ensuring comfort\, low operational costs\, and avoidance of major grid infrastructure upgrades.  \nThis webinar will focus on the interdependence of building systems and how addressing multiple components of a home through phased or integrated upgrades is optimal and easily achievable.  \n   \nLearning Objectives:  \n\nDefine the air barrier\, pressure boundary\, and thermal boundary \nExplain two ways “box swapping” a heat pump for an existing furnace can go wrong \nExplain the importance of performing complete load calculations \nList two of the top four areas of focus for proper heat pump installations \n\n  \n2 AIA LU’s available for this course  \n.20 ICC CEU’s available for this course \n  \nInstructors:  \nLarry Waters\, Electrify My Home  \nAlex Sloan\, Electrify My Home

SUMMARY:Addressing the Energy-Water Nexus: Zero Net Carbon Design Series
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nThe Zero Net Carbon Design (ZNCD) Series\, will begin with the background and an overview of carbon in the building industry\, then focus content on energy performance and renewable energy\, water-savings as energy-savings\, embodied carbon\, and finally regenerative design. \n  \nThe courses have been developed to fulfill the new California requirement for architects to have five hours of ZNCD education as part of their license renewal. Although created with architects in mind\, the content is broadly applicable across the building industry. \n  \nThere are 1.0 HSW|LUs available per class\, we encourage you to register for the rest of the series for the full 5 hours of learning units.  \n  \nClass 3: Addressing the Energy-Water Nexus \n  \nReducing the use of water for buildings\, especially hot water\, has been shown to be more effective in reducing in energy use than many strategies that focus on lighting and HVAC. In this course\, we’ll review the energy-water nexus and provide examples of water-use reduction through indoor fixture and equipment choices\, landscape design and graywater systems.  \n  \nLearning Objectives:  \n\nBe able to describe the energy-water nexus \nQuantify indoor and outdoor water use for different project types \nIdentify and compare water saving strategies \nBuild awareness of recycled water options \n\nPresenters include: \n\nJennifer Rennick\, AIA\, Certified Energy Analyst\nAndy Pease\, AIA\, LEED AP BD+C\nMichelle Zimney\, LEED AP BD+C\, LFA\, CPHC\n\nIf interested\, you can sign-up for the following classes. All classes are scheduled from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM. \n\n5/23: Targeting Zero Net Carbon\n6/20: Energy Performance for Zero Net Carbon Operations\n7/18: Addressing the Energy-Water Nexus\n8/31: Reducing Embodied Carbon\n9/19: Regenerative Design in Practice\n\n
